Info for Couples Getting Married

First of all: Congratulations! We are delighted to be able to celebrate with you!

These ceremonies are available to all couples, gay and straight, who wish to get married during the week of Feb 9th-13th. We are also happy to conduct vow renewals for couples who may have been wed out of state or who were married in a private ceremony because legal marriage was not available.

How to Sign Up:

Please sign up here. If you are having trouble editing the spreadsheet, simply leave a comment with the date/time you want and you and your partner's names and we will get you added.

Registration is not required, but it does mean you won't have to wait in line. : )

(Please note that this is a public spreadsheet. If you feel more comfortable using an alias, that is perfectly acceptable.)

What to Bring:

  • Money for parking! $5 should cover you for most of the lots, but you can see all of the lots and their pricing here. (You may need to walk a bit, so you may want to plan to wear your walking shoes for that part.)
  • To get married, you will need to first pick up your marriage license at the courthouse. The licenses are $59, cash or credit only. You can get more information here. (Note: You can supply a marriage license from anywhere in Alabama, so if you are driving in later in the week, you can pick up the license in advance in your hometown!)
  • Photo IDs. Our officiants need to be able to match your shining faces to the names on the license.
  • Any personally significant keepsakes or mementos you would like included in the ceremony/pictures. (Remember the rings, y'all! ; ) We'll have silk bouquets and arrangements that will be available for the ceremonies and pictures, but if you would like a floral arrangement to keep, please bring that with you.

That's it! Our wonderful volunteers are donating their time and services! We will have photographers, frame-able marriage certificates, cupcakes, and cookies on hand!

Where to Find Us

We will be at the Temple B'nai Sholom.

  1. How long will the ceremony last? I would like to make a reservation at Cotton Row afterward, and the time that we are signed up might put us in a rush to get over to Bridge Street. We are signed up Friday at noon, and I am thinking about making the reservation at CR for 1:00 as they close at 2. Oh, could we arrive in a Limo and dropped off? What would I need to tell the limo driver?

    1. Hi Clinton,

I would expect the ceremony itself to take 10-20 minutes, but there will a little bit of time talking with the officiant before hand and signing licenses, taking photos, getting cupcakes etc afterwards.

Cotton Row is actually on the square (unless you mean a different restaurant?) so it shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes to walk there from where we are.

You can absolutely arrive in a limo and be dropped off. : ) We will be very close to the Al.com building downtown. We'll be posting additional details on the site soon, but that would basically get you there.

      Congratulations! : D

    1. Hi Mandy,

The earliest reservation time we have available on Monday is 12:00. I've added you to that slot. I'm happy to adjust if that doesn't work for you. You are also welcome to come early, we will have multiple officiants available and maybe able to take you sooner.

    2. That's great thank you. Do we need to get the liscence ahead of time like the day before? Is there a 24 hour hold or anything?

      Delete
    3. There is no hold, and the 9th will be crazy since it's the first day they are issuing licenses, so I might go the morning of the 10th if you can, to give you a little breathing room and still avoid the madness. (Unless you want to be there for the experience.)

  17. Been unable to signup on list for appointment; shows locked and won't allow edit; is 10:30 a.m. earliest time available on Tuesday, Feb. 10? If so, put Rhonda and Kim for time slot or earlier if available.

    1. I have booked Rhonda and Kim for 10:30 on Tuesday. However, we will have extra officiants on hand, so if you don't mind the possibility of brief wait, feel free to come earlier and we should be able to work you in sooner. (Especially if you picked up your license today. We will be in the park from 8:30 onwards and have no scheduled ceremonies between 8:30-9:30, it's walk-ups only.)

    2. Thank you. We got our license in Etowah County today and will be driving in from Marshall County (which would not issue licenses on Monday). We appreciate everything all of the volunteers are doing.

    2. So do we need to get there early to get license from courthouse?

      Delete
    3. Hi Katherine, yes. : ) Your time slot is for the ceremony itself. You will need to have the license before you come see us. However, you can do it earlier in the week if that is more convenient. The licenses stay valid for 30 days.
